Tomorrow evening at 8 p.m. EDT, President Obama will address the nation from the Oval Office about the end of the war in Iraq. For nearly a decade, we have been a nation at war. Now, all Americans owe our troops, veterans and military families a debt of gratitude for their outstanding service to our nation.

This Tuesday, after more than seven years of war, President Obama will end the United States combat mission in Iraq. More than 90,000 troops have returned from Iraq, leaving a force of up to 50,000 U.S. troops who will support Iraqi Security Forces. By the end of next year, all American troops will be out of Iraq. It is time to support our veterans.

Ending the War in Iraq

Over the last 18 months, over 90,000 U.S. troops have left Iraq. By the end of this month, 50,000 troops will be serving in Iraq. As Iraqi Security Forces take responsibility for securing their country, our troops will move to an advise-and-assist role. And, consistent with our agreement with the Iraqi government, all of our troops will be out of Iraq by the end of next year.
