As Wisconsin students head back to school, U.S. Senator Russ Feingold is rolling out his education initiatives, which have been shaped by listening to Wisconsinites. As in years past, one of the top issues at Feingold’s 2010 listening sessions has been the need to improve federal education policies.

State to Receive Nearly $180 Million for Education Jobs

Governor Jim Doyle today announced that U.S. Department of Education Secretary Arne Duncan has approved Wisconsin’s application to receive nearly $180 million through the federal Educations Jobs Fund to save and create education jobs. These funds will allow Wisconsin school districts that have laid off employees to hire them back.

College Dropout Factories

Education reformers have come up with the term "dropout factories" for the high schools that post the lowest graduation rates in America. The designation applies to the worst 15 percent of secondary institutions, which on average graduate about 50 percent of their students.
